A message from Piet Kerkhofs, CTO & founder of Eye Security
Yesterday, we made headlines with the announcement that Eye Security was rebranding to AI Security, replacing all our people with European artificial intelligence.
A bold move. And, of course, not a real one. It was an April Fools’ joke, but one with a point.
Because it’s tempting to believe that technology alone can keep organisations safe. That if we just throw enough AI, automation, and machine learning at the problem, we’ll no longer need people in cyber security.
Why people make the difference
At Eye Security, we work with advanced technology every day – AI included. It’s an important part of how we detect and respond to threats. But we also know its limits. Automated alerts can tell you something’s wrong, but it takes human expertise to figure out what’s happening, what’s at risk, and what to do next. No algorithm can match human expertise when it comes to making the right call at the right moment.
Our research shows that only 20% of risk reduction comes from technology alone. The remaining 80%? That’s thanks to the analysts who evaluate alerts, understand the bigger picture, and take action to stop attacks in their tracks.
Without that human layer, even the best tools are like smoke detectors with no one around to call the fire department.
Cyber expertise is rare – and crucial
Here’s the reality: skilled cyber security experts are incredibly scarce. Most companies can’t find, let alone afford, the people needed to continuously monitor and analyse incoming threats.
That’s exactly why Managed Detection & Response (MDR) exists, to make that expertise available to companies that can’t build a 24/7 cyber defence team themselves. MDR goes beyond technology. It combines advanced tools with human intelligence to protect organisations day and night.
The eyes behind Eye Security
So yes, AI is part of the picture. But without the people behind it, it’s just a tool.
A special shout-out to the eyes behind Eye Security: the analysts, incident responders, and cyber experts who keep our customers safe every single day (and night).
It’s not technology that keeps you safe. It’s the people behind it. And that’s no joke.

A lot can change in 12-months. Your business may have added new systems, suppliers, or employees. The amount of data you hold may have increased. Your security controls may have changed. And your current insurance policy may no longer offer the protection you think it does.
Cyber budgets have climbed every year for a decade. Attacks keep succeeding anyway. This gap tells us that the size of the budget was rarely the issue. September is when European leadership teams set the budget allocation for 2027. Every department competes for the same investment, and cybersecurity has to earn its place alongside the […]
If a threat actor logged into one of your employees’ Microsoft 365 accounts right now, how long would it take you to notice?
